Petroleum mapping and data management specialist, Petrosys, has released a direct link from its Petrosys® E&P software to Kelman Data Management’s (KDM’s) DMASS38 seismic data store.

“The business driver for the development of query and report generating tools was to ensure that geophysicists are able to access seismic information through the tool that they use every day” said Kathy Taerum Geophysicist, ConocoPhillips Canada. “The direct link allows working project data to be integrated with data from the larger corporate asset and this makes it possible to quickly identify lines that need to be added to interpretation projects. A key benefit to our business is that the functionality is quick and easy to use, and doesn’t require additional training to learn”, she said.

Creation of the KDM link was undertaken in Calgary, Canada, as a joint effort between Petrosys and ConocoPhillips, and made possible by both KDM and Petrosys commitments to use of the industry standard PPDM1 seismic data model.

“Being able to bring together externally hosted seismic information with in-house well and surface, volume and land access knowledge provides for the most effective and efficient geoscience mapping workflows for companies who rely on a diverse mix of information sources,” said Volker Hirsinger, Managing Director for Petrosys. “Access to the right data, quickly and effectively to generate accurate working and decision quality maps improves geosciences efficiency. ”

The direct link provides KDM clients with a rich range of Petrosys® desktop mapping, data query and reporting tools, allowing them to access the most up-to-date corporate seismic data in conjunction with their in-house working project information. After connecting from their desktop on a high speed internet connection to the hosted KDM database, users have immediate access to all their seismic digital assets with accurate metadata that includes 2D, 3D, 4D surveys, VSP, Microseismic, gravity etc. for direct display and querying on Petrosys maps, and can generate a variety of inventory and acquisition reports.

“Our existing PPDM-based data access required only minimal configuration using our flexible toolkit to map to the KDM business rules,” said Petrosys’ Senior Technical Business Analyst, Susan Hopkin. In addition query capabilities allow for a range of interactive interrogation of the KDM information, combined with a range of reporting capabilities.
