Industry optimism in the Australasian region is further underscored by the recent release of acreage for petroleum and sequestration exploration.

Queensland Government Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Acreage Release

The Queensland Government has released eight new areas via competitive tender for petroleum and gas exploration in Queensland’s Bowen, Surat, Eromanga, and Adavale basins. Tender PLR2021-1 comprises eight areas, totaling 14,420 sq km. The tender process is open from 09/12/2021 and closes 01/03/2022.

The Queensland Government has also released four new areas via competitive tender for greenhouse gas storage exploration in Queensland’s Surat-Bowen and Eromanga basins. Tender QLR2021-1 comprises four areas, totaling over 14,500 sq km. The tender process is open from 02/12/2021 and closes 04/03/2022. More information is available here.

2021 Offshore Greenhouse Gas Acreage Release

The Hon Keith Pitt MP, Minster for Resources and Water, launched the 2021 Offshore Greenhouse Gas Storage Acreage Release on 06/12/2021. GHG21 offers 5 offshore areas for greenhouse gas storage exploration over 62,000 sq km in the waters off Northern Territory and Western Australia. Bids can be submitted between 04/03/2022 and 10/03/2022. More information is available here.
