I want to use stacking velocity data for depth conversion. Do I always have to import it into a Petrosys SDF file?

Not anymore! From version 17.6.10 you can grid stacking velocities directly. The Input Data panel in the Grid > Create Grid… option allows you to select Stacking Velocity as a source.

Various file formats are supported, eg. SEGY and multiple text file formats (and as of version 17.7 you can now also select multiple SEGY or text files from a directory). Where possible, Petrosys will automatically match a format for you (just like on the screenshot below). Do not despair, however, if it does not happen in your case – you can always define a custom format or call support for help.

To make sure everything is okay you can browse and preview your data.

The last thing you need is TWT data and Petrosys will convert the stacking velocities to average velocities or interval velocities. Grids from various data sources can be used or you can select a constant value.

Now you can use the output velocity grid for depth conversion.
