I want to know how to convert coordinates for seismic lines in my SMT project, from one CRS to another – can you help me?

As petrosys is CRS aware now, this is a reasonably easy task. Simply click on theFILE/Import/SMT option, and connect to the SMT project. On the connection window, you will be asked to select the CRS of the SMT project – you will need to know this to start with.

Now you have connected to the SMT project, and it has its initial CRS associated to it, it is simply a matter of creating a new sdf file as normal (this can be created using a CRS of the final output you want the data in), selecting the lines and clicking the import coordinates button. The coordinates will be converted from the original SMT CRS to the new CRS upon import.

You will now have an sdf file that contains the seismic lines in the CRS you want your data in. Export the data from your sdf into a suitable format for loading back into SMT – examples would be ukooa or ascii using file/export/ukooa or file/export/fixed length options.

Job done!

See the diagram below, as an example, which shows the difference between the input CRS from SMT versus the saved CRS of the sdf file – the conversion will be done from one CRS to the other upon import.
