I’ve got a simple text file that has my polygon coordinates. What’s the easiest way to import these polygons into Petrosys?

Petrosys added direct handling of text files back in version 17.3 so adding polygons from a text file is a breeze. You’ll need a segment ID column for each coordinate, or alternatively a line break between polygons. I’ll assume you have a segment ID, but the process is similar for line breaks.

To get started, just drag and drop your text file onto the map. This is a handy shortcut for displaying most data types in Mapping. Now bring up the properties for the GIS display layer. Under the Feature classes tab, open the format panel and change the Shape type from Points to Polygons. Leave the Segment type as Segment ID (if you have a line break set this to Segment Separator). Last thing to do is set the Segment ID type to the correct column.

Click OK and your polygons should display on the map. If you need to turn this into a Petrosys polygon file (for clipping, volumetrics, etc.) just highlight the polygon on the map and right-click to use Export Spatial Data. This gives you the option to export to Polygon file, Shape file, and a couple other file types.
