The course covers the basic Mapping framework; connection manager; creation of mapsheets and the display of information on a mapsheet, such as seismic, wells, faults, spatial and raster data; an overview of Petrosys gridding and contouring; the display of grids and contours; and the editing grids, contours and polygons.

Who should attend:
This course is directed at the active geoscientist, engineer or technical assistant who needs to produce maps and integrate well, seismic, spatial, raster and surface information from workstations and other sources, but who has not yet had exposure to Petrosys mapping.

  1. Introduction to the software.
  2. Connection manager - connecting to data stores, such as GeoFrame, OpenWorks, dbMap, SMT, ArcSDE.
  3. Mapsheets and Display lists - projections, spheroids and datums; selecting your map sheets; and the creation of map sheets based on Lat-Long, East-North and Canadian / US survey grids (if appropriate).
  4. Overview of the display concepts - displaying + modifying data, building up map display lists, saving your maps to different graphics formats.
  5. Point and click functionality - RMB functionality; ability to query objects; drilling down through databases and displaying data screens.
  6. Some of the various display types will be looked at in more detail, including the display of wells from the Petrosys WDF and other data sources; seismic data from a Petrosys SDF and other data sources; Petrosys fault files; spatial (eg ArcSDE, shapefiles), graphics data (eg CGM, CGM+, ECW), survey grids (US and Canada only) and other general data types such as north arrows, polygons, drawing tools.
  7. Overview of Gridding and Contouring - creation of a grid from one or more data sources and defining the appropriate parameters; computing contours; displaying grids and contours on your map; editing color gradients; 3d grid displays; editing grids, contours, faults and polygons.
