Over the past year or two we have been holding question and answer sessions with the interesting, funny and dedicated Petrosys team around the globe, many of whom are behind the scenes. Here are some of the highlights of what they had to say.

(Wallace,  Internal Systems Developer, Adelaide)

Tell us Wallace, what does a typical work day involve for you? Developing, enhancing and analysing the tools Petrosys staff use on a daily basis to get their jobs done (Task list, Support, Sales, License management, etc.).

If you could travel back in time to the first day of your working life, what would be the piece of advice you’d give a younger you? No advice for work, I appear to have been on the right track, but I would suggest I get into sourdough bread baking much sooner 🙂

Tell us something that people might not know about you? I had a passion for sundials in the 80’s.

(Kevin, Support Manager / Sales Geoscientist, Glasgow)

Hi Kevin, tell us about your typical work day, what does it involve? I just balance my support and sales roles. My support role involves keeping on top of existing support, making sure no clients are left struggling on their own and making sure we proactively reach out to clients to show them that we can help. My sales role requires me to organise meetings with new and existing clients and plan trips to visit them. It also requires me to work on any issues that clients reported at previous meetings and either help the client directly or request that we make changes to the software. Other than this I try my best to avoid drinking or making tea and coffee … I’ve been here 4 years now and I’ve had 2 cups of tea and not had to make any! 🙂

When they finally get around to making the movie, ‘The Life and Times of ‘Kevin Ward’ who do you want to play you? Will Ferrell…I feel that even if it turns out to be a tragic story, he’ll be able to make it funny.

(Anu, Office Administrator, Kuala Lumpur)

So Anu, tell us, what does a typical work day involve for you? I’m a total early bird; usually in the office before 7.00am. I do a quick email check to make sure that there’s nothing urgent before diving into my to-do list. There is no typical day as my duties vary from answering incoming calls to coordinating training and organising tradeshows.

If you could travel back in time to the first day of your working life, what would be the piece of advice you’d give a younger you? Standing alone is better than standing with people who don’t value you.

Which 5 people (alive, dead, famous or not) would you invite to a dinner party? My late father, my professor Dr. Mervyn Sookun, Nelson Mandela, Morgan Freeman and Barack Obama. These are people that my late father admired.

(Rob, Senior Database Analyst/Administrator, Adelaide)

What is a typical day at work for you Rob? what does it involve? Have breakfast, ride my bike to work, write (support) emails, think out new strategies and systems, write database code, talk to people at work, ride my bike back home, have dinner, do some more work (usually emails), and finally crash out.

Tell us something that people might not know about you? What, and incriminate myself? ! I prefer not to. So, yes, it’s better if I just say that I’m really boring; and I’m not on ANY social media. I was born in Brisbane; I lived in Southport, Amsterdam, and then for a long time in The Hague; I spent about a year in Spain (mostly in and around Sevilla and Barcelona); I currently live in Adelaide; I hope to be spending much more time in Cairns, in future. Too long a story to tell right now, but in 1976, at age 16, I played a single game of chess against Victor Korchnoi and held out for 40 moves!

(Nathan, Vice President – Europe, Russia & Africa, Glasgow)

Tell us Nathan about your typical work day, what does that involve for you? I don’t think there is such a thing as a typical day. My role includes everything from corporate governance, financial management to HR. I also have responsibilities for Sales and the work that our customer-facing support staff undertake. A lot of variety, which is good.

If you could have been a champion athlete, which sport would you choose? Australian Football.

When they finally get around to making the movie, ‘The Life and Times of ‘Nathan Balls’ who do you want to play you? Bruce Willis. Look up “Bruce Willis Looper Images” on google and you will see the reason why.

(Ebelio, Training & Support Geoscientist, Perth)

Hi Ebelio, what does a typical work day involve for you? It varies, if I’m rostered that day, I’ll be assisting clients across the region using our software applications. Other days I could be preparing new training material for an upcoming course or delivering it, testing a new release or visiting clients on site.

What did you want to be when you were growing up? Once I did a course in astronomy for teens and I loved it. Then I realised all the maths and physics involved and that was it I guess. As a kid, as most of the children in Venezuela, I wanted to be a baseball player. Obviously, it didn’t pan out, but I still have my glove!

Tell us somewhere you’ve never been but would like to go to? I’d love to go to Vietnam. There is this beautiful city called Hoi An that I would like to visit and spend a few days. The Old Town of the city is listed as a World Heritage Site and the beauty and history of the place is remarkable.
