Can I bring ESRI grids into Petrosys and, if so, what format do they need to be?

Yes, you can! A lot of this information is often found on websites in Arc ASCII grid format and this data can now be imported to a Petrosys grid using the Import > ESRI > ArcGrid (ASCII)… option. The ASCII data can be in either rectangular or geographic coordinates, but it should not be rotated and the cell size in the X and Y direction needs to be the same.

You can also import an ArcSDE grid or raster image using Import > ESRI > ArcSDE Grid/Raster… and connecting directly to an ArcSDE database and selecting the appropriate data type.

If you do not want to import to a Petrosys grid, but simply wanted to display the ArcSDE grid or raster image, then use Mapping > Display > Picture > Raster Image… or Mapping > Display > Grid > Colorfill… connect to an ArcSDE database and select the appropriate data to display.

If you have a BIL file you can also display this image using Mapping > Display > Picture > Raster Image… Alternatively, an SDE grid can be used as Input Data… in Petrosys gridding to utilise our full editing and resampling capabilities.

There are many options with regard to displaying ESRI grids and data, and also with importing ESRI grids and images into Petrosys. Our gridding functionality also allows the creation of Petrosys grids using ArcSDE data to enhance the user’s ability to develop accurate and meaningful displays and presentations.
